Premium Catnip

Only the tenderest leaves make it in.

Hand-picked tips, dried and crumbled, sifted free of coarse stems. Made in Taiwan, 30 g.

Hands picking the tenderest tip leaves from a fresh catnip plant.

Harvest

Four to six leaves from each tip.

Every harvest is done by hand, taking only the four to six tenderest leaves at each tip. The closer to the tip, the softer the leaf and the fuller the aroma. Older leaves and coarse stems further down are left behind — far less yield, but only the best part stays.

Dried catnip falling through a sieve while coarse stems stay behind.

How it is made

Dried, crumbled, then sifted.

After drying, the leaves are crumbled by hand and sifted to take out the coarse stems. What is left is uneven pieces of leaf and fine stem, no two the same — because that is what real leaves look like when they break apart. Not milled to powder, not pressed into uniform pellets.

Macro close-up of dried catnip: leaf fragments and fine stems, no two alike.

What is inside

You can still tell it was a leaf.

The leaf pieces run roughly two to six millimetres, mixed with finer stem. Every piece is a different shape and size — some still carry the serrated edge, some sit face-down showing a paler underside. It pours out loose and airy rather than clumping together.

Aroma

One breath is all it takes.

Catnip carries nepetalactone and musk-like compounds. That distinctive scent sets off a burst of excitement, and the tension unwinds from there. Not every cat responds — that is inherited, and has nothing to do with liking it or not.

The reaction

A burst of play, then the calm.

Most cats roll, rub and chase for a few minutes, then settle into a quiet, dozy stretch. Some gets eaten along the way, which adds a little plant fibre. The whole episode winds down on its own in about ten minutes.

How much

One small pinch is plenty.

About a thumb’s worth each time. For easing stress, two or three times a week works well — used more often than that, a cat goes unresponsive to catnip for a day or two.

Two to three times a week

Dried catnip scattered over a cardboard scratcher as a cat’s paw arrives.

Where to use it

Put it where you want them to go.

Sprinkle it on a scratcher and that becomes the place to scratch instead of the sofa. Put it in a new bed or a new room and it helps a cat settle in sooner. It also works tucked into a toy or a cardboard box — a small pinch each time.

After playing, a cat lies quietly by the window, eyes relaxed.

Afterwards

The tense stretch passes.

Moving house, visitors, a trip back from the vet — these are the moments a cat winds tight. What catnip does is get them moving first, then let them settle on their own, burning off the unease along the way.

Packaging

A sealed jar. Just put the lid back.

A 250 ml sealed jar holding 30 g. Keep it somewhere cool and dry, out of direct sun. Once opened, refrigerating it keeps the aroma around longer.

One small pinch. A better afternoon.

Not for every day — just for the days that need it.

Care and safety

A small pinch each time — about a thumb’s worth.

For easing stress, two to three times a week. More often than that and a cat stops responding for a day or two.

Not every cat responds. That is inherited, not a question of quality.

Close the lid tightly after opening so the aroma does not escape.
